The Griffith Observatory sits on a hill on the edge of Griffith Park. This Art Deco logo dates back to 1935 and is packed with stalls. But really, the Planetarium Exhibition is the crown jewel.
The view from the mountains is breathtaking, especially at night in L.A. The city glows below. To see the stars yourself, look through the telescope on the roof or if you do not want to stand with the crowd, try the small telescope on the front lawn. Admission is free. FYI, the observatory is closed on Mondays.
